Has a cool story, which I do enjoy. It came from New Mexico. The original owner stole money from the current owner down there, and once busted, he offered him the truck to make up some of it. Back in 1993 the current owner drove it to our area and then it sat in behind a garage until the current owner asked his son to sell it.
My father passed in March 2024- I had his 1977 5-speed pickup hauled from Bend, OR to my home in Midlothian, TX. The truck was pretty beat, but still intact with nearly no rust anywhere, as Bend is a dry, high desert environment. I will post pics along the way, but intend to memorialize my Dad by making this rig look as good as possible. He bought it forty years ago second-hand.
So, naturally when I got my 79' Yota those were the wheels I wanted, or something close in design. Well, they're not cheap and with so many other things that I felt were more important to update on the truck, I just couldn't see myself spending that kind of money on wheels anytime soon.
I love the color, the rust spots, and the clean interior. I do not love the advanced body rust and will need some practice welding very thin metal before I start tackling the floor boards (rotten out at the front body mounts). It runs and drives right now, but I'll be disassembling it...
One is, I just bought an exhaust gasket for the 20R & the 22R (I still stammer when buying parts). There's a big difference in circumference. Do people usually get a new exhaust system for their hybrid mods? One that better matches their exhaust manifold.
The other question is, my compression is 180 across the board, with #3 being 185. So I'm running with Ethyl (the pricey gasoline). I've a...
I've been around here for a while but took a bit of a break. I used to have a 74 Hilux but ended up selling that to @hambler and took some time experiencing all sorts of cars from a new GTI to a turbo Subaru Legacy wagon to a foxbody mustang and several more. After trying out plenty of other options though none filled the void that my old little pickup left, and so faced with the decision of getting either a first generation RX7 or another Hilux, I bought this:...
