so my truck didnt have a cigarette lighter when i first got it, so when i went to install one, there was no wire that was connected or w/e the word im lookin for is that makes the cigarette lighter work with the ignition or is it a power wire? i ended up putting it on a switch connected to the battery but its extra wire im trying to clean up so does anyone know how its supposed to b hooked up like stock?

I'll answer you question tomorrow.... I'm going to be installing a relay and a small fuse block tomorrow to support my other accessories, but I'll check at the same time how it's wired...... If you really want to know now though it really isn't that hard. you can take any hot ignition wire on the radio hardness and use that as your hot for the center pin of your lighter and then take a ground wire from the chassie (any near by metal that is a good ground) to the outer ring of the lighter... What I'm going to be doing though is using the ignition wire to turn on my relay and the relay contacts will supply power (Fused 12 VDC from the battery) to all accessories. This might be over kill for what you want, but I'll post some pictures tomorrow either way..

no it shouldn't matter.. our harnesses are just a little bit different.., but some what identicalbut. You should however be able to figure out which wires are hot (+12VDC) with a volt meter, or with a simple test light.. you might also check the contacts on the lighter you are hooking up.. especially if it's a used lighter.. they sometimes rust or loose contact.. pictures to come tomorrow..

    cig. lighter wiring

alright.. Here are some images with notes.. hope they help..

Notice four wires for the stereo

Also check your cig. lighter is working.. I made sure that the contact were clean by using a portable sandblaster:

another image of the cig lighter..

To check if there is voltage on the harness take a test light and hook one of the ends to ground as shown below.

    IMG 6:

and the other side of the test light to the source you are testing as shown below:

tested red/green wire with ignition off:

since you say your harness does not have a cig. lighter wire, you can add the cig lighter to the ignition wire (red/green) and the ground (white/black) - These wires might be a different color you in your truck. You can also upgrade your ignition wires like I did.. thought it might be a little over kill...,, but this is what I did...

I used a standard automotive relay as shown below:

Relay Pin numbers in reference to diagram:

    Wiring of relay:

    Fuse box

essentially what I did was.. I used the red/green (relay contact 86) and white/black (relay contact 85) wire to power the relay. A wire from the battery was fed to the common contact of the relay (relay contact 30) and passed (when the relay is active) through the normally open contact of the relay (relay contact 87) into a fuse box and from the fuse box to other accesories.

    I hope this helps... Hopefully I didn't confuse a simple subject.. :D

naw u didnt confuse me, only thing that got me was the relay...i gotta pull my stuff apart and see if i got a fuse box like it looks like u got under the stereo... or where is that at?

I found that fuse box in my stuff of junk and decided to use that one. try getting a small fuse box from pep boys or autozone.. I'm sure they have them.. probably in a different configuration, but I know they should have them.. you should also be able to buy the relay there with pigtailed wires on them so you can just use butt connectors to terminate them.. like the fuse box, I used those relays because that's what i had laying around.. you can mount them anywhere you want.. It doesn't have to be where I hooked it up.., but it just made sense to me since the wires were already there.. You can also fuse it from where you're hooking it up to the battery, which would be better just in case of a short in the future.. don't skip the fuse part though.. I've seen fires that have been started from not fusing..
