Just purchased an 18ft 1981 Toyota R22 Odyssey mini RV with 2 wheel drive and dualy tires that has a broken rear drivers side axle and possibly differential (since the owner before had the wrong axle on it). After doing some research, I found out the axles before '87 were recalled cause they weren't made to support the weight and I need a solution.

I think I want to upgrade my axles to 1 ton axles (not the 1/2 ton that are on there) and need to know what's compatible with this pickup.

The differential may broken too (haven't checked yet) and it seems like I'll need sturdier axles but to keep the same type of differential off an '87+ pickup?

Another option may be to keep a 1/2 ton axle, and replace the leaf springs with something that can support more weight?

Any advice would help. I've been getting lost in forum after forum trying to figure this out.
